Jay Pharoah has been killing it on “SNL” these past few years, all it took was a few old cast members leaving and a little bit of time. Pharaoh’s at his best when given free reign to create or impersonate with bombast, but what got him on the show in the first place were his pitch-perfect impressions of other famous comedians.
Weekend Update’s Colin Jost tosses it to Jay using the recent Katt Williams/Kevin Hart feud as a framing device, with a report of a “secret meeting of black comedians” that Pharoah adds is held every year at Eddie Murphy’s house—in his bowling alley, natch. What follows are takes on Williams and Hart, as well as Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and Murphy that need to be seen to be properly enjoyed.
The jig is up when Jost calls out Pharoah’s claim that Bernie Mac was in attendance, but like Pharoah says as he signs off, “I made it all up Colin, that’s what I do.”
